This policy explains what information we collect, why we need it, and how we keep it safe.The short version: We only collect what we need to make the app work. We will never sell your data. Your koala sightings help the cycling community, and that's what they're used for.
What We Collect
•Location Data: When you spot a koala, we save that location so other cyclists can see it on the map. We also use your location to show you nearby sightings and send notifications about koalas spotted in your area (if you opt in).
•Account Information: When you sign in with Strava, Google, or Apple, we receive your name, email, and profile photo. This helps identify who spotted each koala on the leaderboard.
•Photos: If you choose to add a photo to your sighting, it's stored securely and shown alongside the sighting on the map.
•Device Information: For push notifications, we store a token that lets us send alerts to your specific device. We don't track you or your device for any other purpose.
How We Use Your Data
•Showing Sightings: Your sightings appear on the map for all users to see, helping cyclists find koalas in the Adelaide Hills.
•Notifications: If you enable notifications, we'll alert you when koalas are spotted near your chosen location.
•Leaderboards: We show top spotters to celebrate the most active koala finders in the community.
•Improving the App: We may use anonymous, aggregated data to understand how the app is used and make it better.
What We Don't Do
We will never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Period.We don't track your movements. We only know your location when you actively report a sighting or set your notification area.We don't share your personal information with third parties, except as needed to run the app (see "Services We Use" below).
Advertising & Sponsorship
Koala Radar may display advertising or be supported by sponsors to help cover our costs. Any advertising will be clearly marked as such. Advertisers do not have access to your personal data. We may show ads based on general factors (like the fact you're using a cycling app in South Australia) but never based on tracking your personal behaviour.Services We Use
To make Koala Radar work, we use some trusted third-party services:•Supabase: Securely stores your account, sightings, and photos in Australia.
•Expo: Delivers push notifications to your device.
•Google Maps: Powers the interactive map you see in the app.
•Strava, Google, Apple: Handle secure sign-in so you don't need another password.
Your Choices
•Notifications: You can enable or disable notifications anytime in your profile settings.
•Delete Your Account: You can delete your account from the profile screen. Your profile and personal data will be permanently removed. Your koala sightings will be kept anonymously to continue helping the community.
•Access Your Data: Contact us if you'd like a copy of the data we have about you.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and access controls on our database. However, no system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.Children's Privacy
Koala Radar is designed for general audiences. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll delete it.Changes to This Policy
